Urban expressions

Urban expressions is a project that I organized earlier this year [February –March 2011] which included a set of workshops at Baqa`a Camp with the help of three amazing local artists: Ghalia Barghouthi, a printmaker and a photographer; Dan Drill, a Hip Hop artist; and Aro, a local graffiti artist.
Urban expressions targeted 20 students ages 17 to 25.We offered them a series of creative workshops, which included an introduction to photography, graffiti, hip-hop and mixed media art. The benefits of this project were a mutual learning experience for both the participants and the Artists.
This project concluded with an exhibition at Nabad art gallery in Amman with the intention of celebrating the student’s achievements and hard work with their friends and loved ones .The exhibition consisted of photo documentation of both the process and construction of the graffiti wall. Mixed media art pieces and photography taken by the students was also exhibited  as well as a Hip-Hop performance on the opening night and a live graffiti formed by the participating students.
I was aiming to organize another exhibition at Baqa’a camp for those who couldn’t make it to Amman, but traveled and got engaged with another exciting art project in Dubai [Sikka Art Fair] there-fore I was unable to implement the second phase . The project was such a success first time around which gave me inspiration to create Part 2 .
I am still looking for funding but very excited at the prospect of giving  other young individuals  and new artists the opportunity to gain from this experience . So stay tuned for a revised and improved urban expression project.
Enjoy the pictures . :)
